QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Good questions,
answered.

Whatever you’re wondering about your morning, twenty-six years of weddings means we’ve almost certainly answered it before. Here are the questions brides ask most. And if yours isn’t here, we’re a quick note away.

Booking & availability

How far in advance should we book?

For peak-season Saturdays we recommend reserving 12 to 18 months ahead, since the most in-demand dates go first. That said, it’s always worth asking; we occasionally have closer dates open, and we’ll tell you honestly what’s available.

How do we reserve our date?

Send your date, venue, and approximate party size through the contact form. We’ll confirm availability and follow up with a quote and everything we need to hold your date. A signed agreement and retainer secure it on the calendar.

Do you only take one wedding per day?

We protect your morning carefully. We book the team to your wedding so you are never rushed to make room for another event. Your timeline is the only one that matters that day.

What if our guest count or party size changes?

That’s normal, and we plan for it. Final numbers are confirmed a few weeks out so we can size the team and timeline. Small changes are easy; let us know as early as you can for larger ones so we can staff accordingly.

What if we need to cancel or postpone?

Life happens, and we try to be gracious about it. The retainer that reserves your date is non-refundable (it holds your team and turns other dates away), but if you need to postpone, we’ll do everything we can to move your reservation to a new date we have open. The exact cancellation and reschedule terms are written out plainly in your service agreement, so there are no surprises before you sign.

The wedding morning

Do you come to us, or do we come to you?

We come to you. Updo’s is an on-site company: we bring the full team and kit to your suite, hotel, home, or venue getting-ready space. It’s the whole idea: you stay put, relaxed, and together while we work.

How long does hair and makeup take on the day?

We build your schedule backwards from your photo call and ceremony time, then send an appropriately sized team. Most full parties finish in about three hours, smaller parties often sooner and the largest a little longer; we’ll give you an exact timeline once we know your headcount and services.

What time will you arrive?

Your start time is set by when you need to be camera-ready, working back through the party and any travel. We share the full morning timeline ahead of the day so everyone knows exactly where to be and when.

What do you need from us on-site?

A little space and good natural light if possible: a bridal suite, hotel room, or rented home all work beautifully. We bring chairs, lighting, and the full professional kit. We’ll send a short prep note so the room is ready when we arrive.

Will there be touch-ups before photos?

Yes. We finish with flyaway control, veil and accessory checks, and a final photo check before you step into the day. Higher tiers include a beauty assistant or team lead who stays for touch-ups through key moments.

Hair

Will my style hold through humidity and dancing?

Hold is the whole point. We choose products and setting techniques based on the season, your venue, and whether you’ll be outdoors, then finish with flyaway control. Your style is built to last from the first look through the last dance.

Do you work with every hair type and texture?

Yes. Our stylists are experienced across straight, wavy, curly, and coily textures, locs, fine and thick hair. We shape to your hair’s natural texture rather than fighting it. See our bridal hair page for the styles we shape most.

Can you add length or volume I don’t have?

Yes. We offer day-of clip-in extensions, color-matched and blended, applied the morning of and removed with no commitment. More on our extensions & lashes page.

Makeup

Should I choose airbrush or HD makeup?

Airbrush is a fine mist for a weightless, exceptionally long-wearing, second-skin finish, lovely for warm weather and all-day wear. HD is hand-applied for a luminous, buildable look that’s easy to refresh. Both photograph beautifully; we’ll recommend the right one at your preview.

Are lashes included?

Lashes are included with every makeup service. We’ll choose strip or individual lashes to suit your eyes and the overall look, enough to open up the eyes on camera without feeling heavy.

I have sensitive or acne-prone skin. Can you work with that?

Absolutely. Tell us at your preview and we’ll adjust products and prep accordingly. The preview is the time to test how your skin responds, well before the wedding day.

Can you do bold or cultural bridal looks?

Yes, and we love them. Our artists work across a wide range of skin tones, traditions, and styles, from soft and natural to bold editorial and cultural bridal looks, including South Asian bridal makeup. Bring your references to the preview.

Bridal party

How large a party can you handle?

There is no party too big. We routinely style parties of ten to fifteen or more in a single morning by bringing a coordinated, multi-artist team scaled to your headcount and finish time.

Can the party have different looks?

Yes. We style to one cohesive vision so the party reads beautifully together in photos, while tailoring each look to flatter the individual. Hair up or down, makeup soft or bold, all within a unified direction.

Do you style children and mothers too?

We do. Junior bridesmaids, flower girls, mothers, grandmothers, and honored guests are all welcome, with gentle, age-appropriate styling for the little ones.

Does everyone in the party need a preview?

The bride’s preview is the essential one. Party members generally don’t need individual previews, though they’re available on request, popular for a maid of honor or anyone wanting to settle a specific look in advance.

Previews

Is a preview included?

Yes. Your bridal preview is included in every tier, never an add-on. It’s where your look is settled before the day, so the wedding morning runs effortlessly.

When should I schedule my preview?

We recommend 8 to 12 weeks before the wedding, once you have your dress and a sense of your accessories. That window is late enough that your vision is settled, early enough to make changes without pressure.

How should I prepare for it?

Come with clean, dry hair and no makeup, wearing a top in a color near your dress if you can. Bring your veil, any accessories, and inspiration photos, even several directions. The more we see, the better we tailor.

Will the same artist do my wedding day?

We document your preview in detail (products, placement, technique) so your look is recreated seamlessly. We make every effort to pair you with the same artist, and because everything is recorded, your result is consistent regardless.

Travel & pricing

Is travel included in your pricing?

Yes. Every tier includes on-site travel to your venue, hotel, or private residence, with no separate travel fee. Bridal services begin at $575, and each city’s page lists exact numbers.

Where do you travel?

We’re based in Winston-Salem and travel throughout North Carolina, including Greensboro, High Point, Charlotte, Raleigh, the Triangle, and Asheville and the mountains, plus destination weddings, including internationally. See our travel & regions page.

Can we book just hair, or just makeup?

Yes. À la carte hair-only and makeup-only rates are available for both the bride and party members. The pricing page lists the Triad baseline.

How does payment work?

A signed agreement and a retainer reserve your date, with the balance due before the wedding. We’ll lay out the exact schedule in your quote. Gratuity is always appreciated but never expected.
